Who We Are

Over decades of Compassionate Care

Originally established in 1988 as Insight Homes Ltd, the organisation was restructured in 2004, giving rise to Foresight Residential Ltd. In January 2021 Linkfield Residential Ltd was incorporated and operates from Musselburgh, near Edinburgh. Both organisations provide long-term supported living for individuals with visual impairments and a range of additional needs.

Our tailored approach is designed to meet the unique aspirations and requirements of each resident—fostering independence, building confidence, and enabling meaningful participation in community life.

Our Values

At Foresight and Linkfield Residential Ltd we are committed to delivering person-centred, compassionate and dignified care

Person-Centred Care

Foresight Residential Ltd, based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and our sister company, Linkfield Residential Ltd, based in Musselburgh, near Edinburgh, both use an approach to health and social care that focuses on the individual’s unique needs. We identify the individuals preferences, values, and experiences, rather than just their disabilities. We see the person as a whole — including their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being — and strive to involve them actively in decisions about their care.

Community & Engagement

We pride ourselves on the way we build relationships, collaboration, and active participation between individuals, groups, and organisations within a community. It’s about involving people in decisions, actions, and initiatives that affect their lives and local environments. Together, community and engagement promote inclusion, shared responsibility, and sustainable change

Safety & Wellbeing

These are fundamental principles in health, social care, and community settings. Together, they ensure that people are protected from harm and supported to live healthy, fulfilling, and meaningful lives. At Foresight Residential and Linkfield Residential we excel at creating and maintaining environments where people are free from harm, abuse, neglect, or injury.

Independence & Growth

These are the key principles in personal development, health, and social care. We focus on empowering individuals to make their own choices, develop skills, and reach their full potential — leading to confidence, self-reliance, and a sense of achievement.

Arts & Music

At Foresight and Linkfield we run activities and the residents join in these sessions making it a social activity as well as productive. Residents love to make a multitude of items on craft days. Music is a lively event with instruments played and karaoke, name that tune, and music quizzes. Cookery/baking day is fun with the enjoyment of eating what is made at the end of the day.

Social Activities

The residents attend many social activities within the homes and out in the community i.e. Gateway Club, Lighthouse Club, pub trips, cinema, bowling, theatre etc. We recently had a trip on the Polar Express which was magical. We aim to find activities that suit our residents abilities as well as being fun and engaging.

Learning & Skills

Apart from our own run centres some residents, in Harrogate, also attend Henshaw’s (specialist college for people with a visual impairment) Arts and Crafts, “Horticap” to do gardening/ horticulture, “Open Country” for outside activities, walks and bicycle rides for those who can. We also promote their independence in the home by encouraging table setting/clearing, assisting staff with cleaning their room or sorting laundry. It is hugely important that clients use the skills they have as we are dedicated to promoting independence where it is safe to do so.

Well-being

Well-being is paramount. The residents receive a balanced diet with a variety of choices for each meal. Their weight is regularly checked. Should they fall ill they will see a GP the same day if required. We have very close relationships with our residents and their families. There are regular health checks, and we work very closely with the Community Learning Disability team who provide Psychology nurses, Speech and Language nurses, Occupational therapy team, Physiotherapy nurses, Psychologists and Psychiatrists. Also, the Learning Disability nurse at the local hospital.

What People Say

Real stories from our residents and their families

“I have worked for Foresight for 15 years. I still feel, when I come to work, that I am just popping in to visit someone. Over the years I have grown older with the clients and every day they astound me as their energy is infectious, the welcome is genuine. They really are pleased to see me and tell me about their plans for the day. I have also got to know some of the families well over the years and I believe I have their trust when it comes to caring for their son or daughter”.

Debbie

“I have lived at Foresight Residential for 30 years. I have lots of friends here. I go to the Vision Support Centre in town twice a week. I do basket weaving and pottery. I have made lots of things there and at the moment I am making an Elephant. I really like the music class that we have. I am very good at remembering old songs”
